Redness
Redness or an irritation of the skin can be caused by a number of conditions. The two most common are Poikiloderma and Rosacea.
Poikiloderma and rosacea
Poikiloderma is a benign skin condition found along the sides of the neck, and mainly affects women. Causes are unknown, but contributing factors include:
- sun exposure
- fair skin
- hormonal factors
- reactions to certain cosmetics and toiletries, especially perfumes
Rosacea, on the other hand, is a skin condition that results in redness of the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. It is common among people between the ages of 30-50 and those with fair skin. Rosacea can lead to:
- facial redness
- visible, broken blood vessels
- sensitive, swollen, or dry skin
- a burning or stinging sensation
- acne and oily skin
- bumpy, thickened skin
The eyes can also develop rosacea, which can result in a watery, bloodshot appearance, itchy eyes, dry eyes, blurry vision, sensitivity to light, or a cyst on the eyelid.
Redness of the chest
Redness on the chest can be caused by a number of issues. The most common are: a non-specific chest rash and allergic dermatitis. Both of these conditions can be treated easily, but if you do have a rash on your chest that won’t go away, you may need an alternative treatment.
