As we settle into the new year, many of us are focused on transformations—whether it’s making bold career moves, tackling home renovations, or diving into personal projects. For many, revamping our self-care routine is also at the top of the list, often with the goal of looking and feeling our best—and one popular way to achieve that is with fillers.

Nowadays, fillers are among the easiest ways to rejuvenate the complexion, restore lost volume and maintain a natural-looking appearance. Whether you’ve had fillers before, are looking to dive back in, or are taking the plunge for the first time, we tapped the experts to find out which filler procedures are the most popular as we start the new year to help guide your treatment regimen.

Top Filler Treatments to Kickstart the New Year

“So many patients are eager to have a refresh in the new year,” begins Dr. Day. “We are doing fillers for facial balance and a lot of C02 and Erbium laser resurfacing along with it as we start 2025.” To ensure each patient’s specific needs are met, Dr. Day curates a “special, personalized regimen for each patient during treatment to minimize the downtime and amplify the benefits of the treatment.” In that realm, Dr. Day supplements new year filler treatments with things like topical Sculptra, exosomes and growth factors along with “special hydrators that leave the skin feeling soft and beautiful even during the healing process.”

At Dr. Rubinstein’s practice, Sculptra is also a hot commodity as we enter 2025, with biostimulators as a whole taking center stage this year. “A biostimulant promotes a person‘s own collagen to fill in the lattice and scaffolding provided by the product,” Dr. Rubinstein explains. “We have used Sculptra for over 15 years and have the experience and long-term results to continue to have confidence in this option for facial volume loss. Especially now, with the weight loss that a lot of people are experiencing, biostimulants like Sculptra help replenish the volume loss in the face.”

As Dr. Day and Dr. Rubinstein both agree, lip fillers are still popular as we enter 2025, but the desired outcome of these injections has shifted. “Lip volume replenishment is still popular, however, we are concentrating more on natural-looking plump lips and volume replenishment for older patients,” says Dr. Rubinstein.

Fillers Go Less-Is-More with Innovative Tweakments

As we’ve seen across beauty and aesthetics, the less-is-more movement is in full swing, and as Dr. Joel Schlessinger predicts, the understated aesthetic will rule the filler realm in 2025.  “For the past decade at least, we have seen an overwhelming focus on bigger lips, which has often culminated in odd or unnatural appearing faces because the lips were out of sync with the rest of the facial characteristics,” Dr. Joel Schlessinger begins, “As a result, hen patients come in and ask for one area to be improved, it is somewhat like painting one wall in a room: it looks different, but not great. This year, my hope is that people are going to critically reassess the benefits of what they are doing and, hopefully, go to doctors who do the same, without just reflexively injecting fillers that may result in little, if any benefit.”

Taking a more holistic, natural-looking approach to fillers, Dr. Joel Schlessinger expresses his excitement over new, innovative treatment areas that can help create that fresh, rejuvenated look. “We are also blessed this year with some great new areas that Botox is or will likely be approved in. Masseter muscle hypertrophy (jawline bulging) and neck bands are two exciting new areas that we worked on for Botox. These are areas that will improve the overall facial aesthetic without needing more filler and can lead to a more sculpted look, while also helping with tension and teeth grinding (in the case of masseter hypertrophy).”

Dr. Daniel Schlessinger adds that another underrated area he’s looking forward to injecting this year is that of the chin and marionette lines. “This is such a great area for rejuvenating one’s face if done correctly, but it is absolutely one of those areas that are best done by a true artist or it can actually work against your overall look.”

When to Start Your New Year Filler Routine

As Dr. Day explains, patients getting filler in 2025 are searching for authentic, balanced appearances. To create natural-looking results, Dr. Rubinstein recommends starting your filler journey early. “It’s best to start the volume replenishment as the weight starts affecting the face for a couple of reasons,” he explains regarding post-weight loss facial rejuvenation. “One is that Sculptra or other biostimulants take time to work. Another reason to start early is because it’s always best to prevent the skin from losing its elasticity rather than repairing the skin once it’s been damaged.”

Best Filler Treatments to Start in the New Year

Our doctors affirm that whether you’ve let your filler regimen fall by the wayside or you’re just getting started, there’s no better time than the new year to get into a filler routine. “Start with an evaluation of the face as a single aesthetic unit, not as lines, wrinkles or depressions,” Dr. Day advises first-timers. “The evaluation should be done by looking at the face live and in photos to have a better perspective of what may be needed. Some areas are often overlooked, such as the temples and the lateral face, like the area just in front of the ears,”—which is why a thorough assessment is key to creating a balanced and natural-looking result.

As Dr. Rubinstein mentioned prior, it’s better to get ahead of skin-related issues than trying to combat them after the fact, and Dr. Day agrees. “The biggest mistake people make when getting into filler is trying to erase lines without understanding what is causing the lines. Oftentimes, a correction of a line can be done by injecting an area distal to it. It is not intuitive—it requires training and a keen understanding of anatomy and the aging process. We often combine fillers with devices and lasers, as well as specific skin care, for a multi-layered approach that has longer lasting and more beautiful results.”

In a similar manner, Dr. Rubinstein advocates for a layered approach to tackling the neck area with a combination of new technologies. “The newest addition to our filler and biostimulant offerings is Radiesse, an option for smoothing neck lines. It’s diluted to create a lightweight, liquid filler that works both as a filler and a biostimulant. This treatment is best paired with a resurfacing laser, radio frequency treatmentsuch as Morpheus8 or Ultherapy—the gold standard in neck treatment.”
