We are the only office in the Los Angeles area to carry Cosmelan European Formula. We combine this effective formula with a proprietary pre-treatment procedure for most the effective results on pigmentation and skin texture.*

Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment is intended to dramatically reduce the appearance of pigmentation and uneven skin tone resulting from melasma, acne scarring and other dermal pigmentation.* Cosmelan has been successful in addressing pigmentation previously non-responsive to treatment. * This treatment has an in-office and an “at home” component. Cosmelan has very high safety margin.*

The Cosmelan European Formula’s action mechanism is based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. Several of the substances present in the Cosmelan formula act by blocking this enzyme, or even by inverting the metabolic process of the transformation chain.* Cosmelan European is NOT a bleaching cream and contains no hydroquinone.

What do treatments involve?

TREATMENT APPLICATION – The Cosmelan is a mask applied at our office by a Physician Assistant and remains on your face 8 to 12 hours depending on the indication. The mask is washed off at home and you may expect a few days of light to heavy peeling, redness and sensitivity.* After the third or fourth day, the skin appears healthy and luminous and the marks begin to fade.*

ONE WEEK after starting the mask application, a noticeable significant improvement of the skin may be observed!* The reduction of the treated blemish is detected and the appearance of new luminous and rejuvenated skin is present.* At the end of the Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment, blemishes start to disappear altogether.* Although you may be able to “locate” the place where the spot was, the pigmentation is significantly reduced and nobody will be able to see it just by looking at it.*

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION FOR THE PATIENT
The Cosmelan Depigmentation treatment is initiated at the medical office but must be continued at home, on a daily basis, according to the guidelines indicated.* Because of the nature of pigmentation and melasma, continued maintenance helps prevent re-pigmentation.* Strict sun avoidance should also be followed.

HOME TREATMENT – Cosmelan 2 European Maintenance Cream
The second phase of the Cosmelan treatment consists of a home maintenance cream, Cosmelan 2, with the intention of securing the depigmentation by association of agents such as kojic acid, phytic acid and vitamin C.* Cosmelan 2 cream should be applied 2 times per day during the first two weeks, and once a day from the third week on for several months depending on the indication as directed to achieve an optimum depigmentation response.*

We often reserve some Cosmelan 1 Mask for a “touch-up” application, if necessary in one month.* This helps achieve excellent results on even the most stubborn areas.*

Skin Lightening Compounds

Dr. Rubinstein formulates several skin lightening compounds in various strengths which gradually help address pigmentation.* These prescription strength formulas lighten uneven skin tone, residual brown pigmentation caused by acne or other scarring, and require a physician visit to our practice.* A formula containing Retin-A is also available for patients whose skin can tolerate a more intense treatment process and who wish to achieve faster results.* Retin-A also helps achieve cell turnover and improve the texture of the skin.* This treatment corrects current pigmentation and prevents the appearance of new pigmentation.* This treatment is indicated for patients who regularly develop pigmentation from hormones, sun, acne or other factors.* A consultation with Dr. Rubinstein or a Physician Assistant is required to determine if you are a candidate for this treatment and to obtain a prescription.
